Saturday 19th July. The venue for the 2008 District Governor's Handover was the Holiday Inn, Cardiff in the shadow of the Millennium Stadium. Eighty guests joined with outgoing DG Lion Ron Clarke to welcome 2008-2009 DG Lion Surinder Malhotra to accept the challenges of finding the future for Lions Clubs International within District 105W. One of the last duties of Lion Ron was to present International President appreciation certificates to Zone Chairperson Lion Derek Livsey and Lion Surinder for their work in promoting Campaign SightFirst II. Lion Surinder presented a gift from 105W Club members to Lion Ron and the District Secretary pin to Lion Laurence Morrissey and District Treasurer pin to Lion Peter Wood. The evening was rounded off with a good show of dancing which wilted as the clock struck midnight and the carriages arrived to ferry the late revelers to bed. A good night of fun, friendship and fellowship. Cardiff Holiday Inn

The first Lions Club in the British Isles and Ireland was London Host Club formed in 1950. Since that time new Clubs and new Districts have been formed. District 105SW was created in 1970 and in 1975 it was divided into two, making up our present day 105W and 105SW Districts. Our first District Governor was Lion Lynn Packer 1975-1976 who was also General Secretary to the Multiple District.

Thirty three years later and we reach the end of another year of fun, friendship and fellowship in 105W with Lion Ron at the helm who gave us the slogan, ‘Enjoy being a Lion’; a  year that once again brought our motto ‘We Serve’ to our doorstep. The events of last summer during the Gloucestershire floods brought out the true spirit of Ordinary People doing Amazing Things when all our Clubs rallied to the cause.

We enter 2008-2009 in 105W with 52 Lions Clubs, one Branch Club and one Lioness Club as we welcome Lion Surinder as our new District Governor. The slogan for the year is, ‘Service before Self’, which follows our new International President, Lion Albert Brandel’s theme, ‘Miracles through Service’.

The Lion members of 105W thank Lion Ron and Doris for everything that you have both achieved during the year and in the quest for taking Lions into the future. We wish Lion Surinder and Lion Indu every success while you lead and encourage the Lion members of 105W through the challenges of 2008-2009.

... and a few words from IPDG Lion Ron Clarke: "Twice in my Lionistic career I have been virtually lost for words, the first was when I was surprised with an MJF award and the second time was at the handover when the new DG, Lion Surinder, presented me with the gifts from the District. The engraved crystal pyramid so cleverly organised  by Lion Indu and the handsome cheque were both greatly appreciated by me. So a big thank you to all the Clubs who so kindly donated money, it is truly appreciated especially all I was doing was to enjoy being a Lion."
