Letter of thanks from MD 117 Greece and Cyprus May 2008 select
Appeal September 2007. The Council of Governors has approved the Appeal to help the Lions in Greece following the devastating fires that raged with such loss of life. This is an extract of the communication received from MD117 (Greece and Cyprus).
"You may already know that I am referring to the many simultaneous fires that had spread over numerous areas in Greece, a few weeks ago, burning in their passage villages, cities, houses, schools, cars, working places, animals, birds, forests, plants and additionally causing the death to more than eighty people, including children.
The total catastrophe of these regions with economical, cultural, social, physical and environmental consequences to both the country and its people are enormous, while its ecological losses are of a great importance for the planet and the eco-system.
As Lions we all know that our Associations' Motto is "We Serve" and that the 'ALERT' program provides worldwide emergency response and assistance in times of crisis to countries in need and Greece is currently in great need. For that reason, all the Lions in District MD117, are working for the cause "to offer any possible help to the homeless and to the non-income earning people
in Greece."

Time is of the essence in this type of emergency so it has been decided that any money that Clubs wish to donate should be with our District Treasurer by the end of October 2007. Please make cheques to, 'Lions Clubs International District 105W', endorsed on the back, 'Greece Fires'
