Support
the mobile chemotherapy units appeal Lions
Clubs throughout the District are being urged to contribute towards the
cost of setting up mobile chemotherapy units to visit strategic towns or
villages. The units will
treat cancer patients with chemotherapy, thus avoiding lengthy and
expensive visits to remote treatment centres. The
idea comes from Christine Mills, founder of Hope for Tomorrow who
addressed District Convention in March 2009. Lion
Tony Buchan, 2009-2010 District Advisor for 'Hope for Tomorrow' actively
encouraged cash support from clubs in the District, to fund new mobile
chemotherapy units. "I
am passionate about Hope for Tomorrow and its aims," said Lion
Tony. "too many of us
are affected either directly or indirectly by cancer.
But if we can help alleviate the stress that long district
travelling to chemotherapy treatments can cause, then we must do
so." Already
two mobile units are operational and a third is expected to be completed
by the year's end. The
ultimate aim for Hope for Tomorrow is to have a mobile chemotherapy unit
based at all 38 oncology centres in the From
July 2010 Lion Tony has advised of a slight change in respect of the
promotion of Mobile Chemotherapy and Mobile Oncology Units within our
District. As many of you,
especially within the Welsh side of the District, will be aware, Tenovus
have been approaching clubs within
