Message 1. Message of shock and condolence from DG Lion Bill O'Neill to International President Frank on behalf of District 105W mailed 11th September

Response. From International President Lion Frank Moore 14th Sept.

Dear Bill,

A special thank you for expressing your sympathy to the American people during this time of deep sorrow.  As International President, it is gratifying to receive messages of support from Lions clubs members located throughout the world.

We have expressed your heartfelt condolences to the victims and families of the terrible tragedy that plagued the United States on September 11, 2001.

LCIF has established a designated fund to receive donations from those Lions and others that wish to contribute monetarily to the victims and families of this tragedy. LCIF will make these funds available to local New York City Lions clubs who are working with the various relief organizations in support of the victims.  Anyone wishing to contribute can access the following for more information https://ssl.charityweb.net/lcif or telephone LCIF @ 630 571-5466.

Again, thank you for your words of support at this difficult time.

IP Frank

Message 2. From Phil Nathan, Council Advisor, donation advice

Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2001 4:54 PM

Subject: Council Chairman/Council/Council Officers/Past International

Officers 2001-2002.

Dear All

I have had a discussion with LCIF Grants Manager Peter Lynch in the last hour. A news release will be forthcoming later in the day but because of questions I have decided to gather as much information as possible for your usage.

At this time under the guidance of Past International President Bob Uplinger, Past Director Bob Klein (who I served with for two years) and Past International Al Brandel - a good friend and a member of the NYPD, (who forwarded a rather emotional e-mail to me earlier this morning ) the New York Lions are working with the Red Cross for co-ordination of blood donations.  It has been suggested that blood donations can be forwarded from abroad in special containers although I have no knowledge of this method.

LCIF have opened an account today and donations can be forwarded through thenormal channels - I would suggest made to "LCIF designated World Trade Centre Disaster Victims Fund" "(WTCDVF)".

There will be a bulletin on the LCI web later today. Having had discussions with Immediate Past International President Dr Jean Behar the Chairman of our Foundation he and the department are setting this fund up to enable short and long-term assistance.  This will cover anything from wheelchairs to scholarships (eventually) for the children that have lost their parents. A Catastrophe Grant is being considered but more analysis of what would be done with it is currently being discussed.

The USA Canada Forum takes place this weekend and I am sure there will be a lot of emotion during this time.

If I have further information I will forward it as soon as possible.

Let's get behind this and show our support.

Kindest regards to all

Phil Nathan

Message 3. From Keynsham Lions Club 12 September

Dear International President Lion Frank,

I am writing on behalf of my club, the Lions Club of Keynsham, England, District 105W. I would ask that your office pass on this message to the Lions Clubs in New York and Washington that have been affected by the terrible disasters of yesterday.

My clubs thoughts are very much with all of the American people and the Lions in particular in the aftermath of this sad act of inhumanity.

Sadly I am sure that with such a death toll there is every likelihood that one or more Lions might have been killed or injured and without doubt there will be Lions who have lost colleagues, friends or loved ones.

Please, on behalf of Keynsham Lions pass on our thoughts and best wishes for the future.

Yours in Lionism,

Lion Alan Hale

Message 4. From South Africa 14 September received via Lions WebRing

On behalf of the President and Membership of the Lions Club of Port Shepstone, South Africa, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to all the people of the United States who have suffered as a result of this terrible tragedy that has taken place. It saddens us to hear of such terror especially considering the fact that this type of behaviour totally contradicts the Lions International motto on promoting peace throughout the world. We are all extremely concerned for you all and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have already forwarded a message of condolence to International President Moore and I sincerely hope that this message is able to reach the members of the many Lions Clubs that exists in the United States. Now, more than ever, we must stand together and promote peace. We have already attended a special memorial service and held vigil for our friends in the United States.

May God be with you all during this terrible ordeal.

Yours in Lionism

Lion Denis Meyer

(Immediate Past President)

Message 6. From MD Chairman of Council Lion Ken Morgan dated 12 September received 14th September.

To Club Presidents. I am sure both you and your Club Members have winessed the horrific events caused by terrorist action in America this week. The human cost is difficult to estimate at this time but I am sure your thoughts and prayers will be with those affected and their families.

Lions Clubs International Foundation has already set up an account for victims and donations can be made by sending cheques (made out to your District Account) to your District Treasurer endorsed on the back with:

'World Trade Centre Disaster Victims Fund' or 'WTCDVF'

The Council of Governors hope the majority of Club Members in MD105 would like to contribute but there is no specified amount requested. All donations will be used to give short and long term assistance to those affected. This could cover anything from wheelchairs to education costs for children who have lost parents.

LCIF is our own Foundation used for humanitarian purposes. This appeal will allow all communities in the British Isles and Ireland to contribute directly to all those unfortunate to be involved.

I am sure every Lion in this Multiple District will wish to make a donation

Yours in Lionism, Lion Ken Morgan

Lion Frank MooreMessage 7. From International President Lion Frank Moore

On behalf of Lions membership around the world, I wish to express my

heartfelt condolences to the victims of the World Trade Center tragedy,

as well as to the victims and families of the other related acts of terrorism,

which plagued the United States on September 11. I encourage all Lions

in the United States to donate blood at their nearest Red Cross facility

or local hospital in response to an urgent need.

In addition, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has established a designated fund to receive donations from concerned Lions and others who wish to contribute. LCIF will make these funds available to local New York City Lions clubs who are working with various relief organizations in support of victims. Anyone wishing to contribute can access the following for more information: https://ssl.charityweb.net/lcif. Also, click here.

Since 1917, Lions have served the world's population through hard work and commitment to make a difference in the lives of people, promote world peace and alleviate pain and suffering. Lions around the world take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of their communities, to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world, and therefore steadfastly oppose violence and/or intimidation in all its forms.

A special thank you to Lions around the world who have called or written to express their sympathy to the American people during this time of deep sorrow.

Sincerely,

J. Frank Moore III

2001-02 Lions Clubs International President
